The Design Division
The Design Division was born out of the simple belief that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts: when complementary design-led skill sets are combined, products and concepts can come to life in ways that would allude a single operator.

Shane Talbot, Kieran Choy and Nicholas Kelly make up The Design Division, a collection of young and talented designers, each of whom are established in their own individual fields and careers, and who come together to create custom design solutions for our clients (and ourselves).

The Design Division craft bespoke, forward thinking and unique concepts, and we focus on bringing ideas to life - we specialise in industrial design, photography and custom furniture builds.

We are constantly working on new products, and often discuss concepts and ideas on our blog, so stay connected with us. We want to stay connected with you.

Our complete portfolio is viewable at thedesigndivision.com.au, and you can contact us anytime at info@thedesigndivision.com.au

Only 42 notes? I mean, I know we aren’t Sam Spratt or anything, but we can do better than that!

It’s time to finally give a cup away.

Sometimes we don’t make stuff perfectly (hey, we’re only human!), and while they’re acceptable enough to own, they’re probably not good enough to sell. So we’re giving one away.

This lemon coloured baby has some crazing in the glazing, and the concrete had some, err.. shall we say ‘consistency issues’. It’s all good, it’s rustic! And it’s free!

Want this cup? Like this post! Reblog this post! And make sure you’re following us. Yep, just like your favourite teen-fashion blogs, we’re doing a giveaway that is purely designed to make us feel popular.

The more notes you leave us the more likely you are to win - we’ll randomly pick a number in 2 weeks, and the winner will be whoever left the note that corresponds to the randomly chosen number. Hmm… Thats confusing to explain.

Note: we can post this anywhere in Australia for free, but if you happen to win and live internationally, we’ll have to sort something out. It’ll cost ~$20 to ship it to most places, but maybe we can make it worth your while.

Skol Cups: The Mold.

The beauty of the one part silicone mold is that its from a superflexible silicone, meaning that we didnt have to worry about draft angles or undercuts or 2 part molds and part lines..

its simply pour in from the bottom, let it cure, pull it out.

The mold for the skol cups utilises 3 plaster pieces, whose only purpose it to ensure that the silicone glove is the correct shape when filled with heavy concrete.

The plaster pieces have been reinforced to ensure that they do not crack, as filling the mold with concrete involves banging the entire mold on the table top - otherwise we get pockets of air and bubbles in the casting.

Skol Cups: The Mold.

Unfortunately, for a large number of factors, it took us a while to get the design of the base right. But once we did, Kieran made sure that we had a mold that was easy to use, and generated a perfect cup every time.

Its a 3 part plaster mold, with a silicone glove insert, that we originally cast around a 3D print that we sanded and sprayputty’d until it was perfectly smooth and without marks.
